Spring-Ford Quarterback Matt Zollers Joins Drills at Missouri, Feels ‘Biggest and Strongest’ Post-Injury

Spring-Ford star quarterback Matt Zollers joined spring drills at Missouri after suffering an ankle injury in September.

Spring-Ford star quarterback Matt Zollers joined spring drills at Missouri after suffering a gruesome ankle injury during a nonleague game against Downingtown West in September, writes Joseph Santoliquito for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

At the time of the injury, which left his ankle dislocated and pointing at a 90-degree angle to the side, it seemed to everyone at Spring-Ford’s McNelly Stadium that the 6-foot-3 Missouri-bound Zollers, Pennsylvania’s No. 1 rated quarterback and No. 17 ranked nationally, would moat likely never be able to play again.

The only one who never doubted that he would be back on the field was Zollers himself. Now, months after an injury that can take up to two years to fully recover from, he has suited up for Missouri’s spring practice, fully healthy and ready to play.

“This is the biggest and strongest I’ve ever felt in my life,” he said. “I think the biggest lesson this has taught me is not to take anything for granted. People from the outside could see this as something life changing. I don’t. It’s why I’m not calling this a comeback. It’s a recovery. I knew I would be back.”
