Lochel’s Bakery, which has been running an election-themed cookie poll for the last four elections, has now garnered national attention and a visit from President Trump’s son, Eric, writes Doug Gross for Yahoo!News.

The “cookie poll” has been running since September. Customers can show their support for one of the presidential candidates by purchasing red-and-white Trump cookies or blue-and-white Biden cookies.

While so far the bakery’s light-hearted competition has mostly just been featured in local media, this year it has received national coverage, including from Fox News and Good Morning America.

“Yes, things have gone crazy,” said owner Kathleen Lochel.

However the attention has been good for the bakery’s bottom line, as it has sold thousands of more cookies than in previous years.

“People are coming from all over for them,” said Lochel. “Literally states away, driving into town.”

Eric Trump’s visit on Friday was a surprise, said Lochel.

“He just showed up to buy cookies unannounced,” she said. “He was most respectful and we welcome everyone regardless of political affiliation.”

During the visit, Lochel’s husband gave the unexpected guest a tour of the bakery.
