Charles Barkley Wants Josh Shapiro On Future Presidential Ballot

Charles Barkley says if Democrats don’t nominate Josh Shapiro or Wes Moore in 2028, they’ll lose his support.

Pennsylvania Governor and Abington native Josh Shapiro just picked up a high-profile nod from none other than Charles Barkley, writes Rob Tornoe for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

During a recent podcast appearance, the former Sixers star and NBA analyst shared his thoughts on the still-distant 2028 presidential race. Barkley, who has flirted with politics himself, made it clear: if Democrats want his support, they should look no further than Shapiro or Maryland Governor Wes Moore.

“I think Josh Shapiro is amazing,” Barkley said. “As an independent, if the Democrats don’t get Josh Shapiro… or Wes Moore, the governor of Maryland… I would not consider voting for anybody else.”

Shapiro, who served as a commissioner before becoming governor, hasn’t announced any national ambitions—yet. He’s said he’s focused on his current role and upcoming 2026 re-election. Still, his name has surfaced in national conversations thanks to media appearances and a growing reputation as a capable leader.

Shapiro and Barkley share a common passion: basketball. Shapiro is a devout 76ers fan and even stepped into broadcasting to call a college game earlier this year.

While 2028 is still years away, one thing’s clear: Shapiro’s profile is rising, and Charles Barkley is paying attention.
