Members of Beth Shalom in Elkins Park, the longtime synagogue of Governor Josh Shapiro, voiced their support after an arson attack at his home on Sunday, writes Jessica Kartalija for 6abc.
Abington’s Shapiro spoke about the incident shortly before the second Passover seder began.
“If he was trying to terrorize our family?” he said. “Friends, Jewish community who joined us for Passover Seder in that room last night, we celebrated our faith proudly and will do it again tonight, proudly.”
Elly Kamen has been a member of Beth Shalom since she was a little girl.
“His religion means a great deal to him and he’s not ashamed to admit that his faith is very important and the rest of us Jews who know him are proud and love him and he is doing a wonderful job as governor,” said Kamen, of Blue Bell.
Synagogue Cantor Jacob Agar also voiced support for the governor.
“We as a synagogue, we stand with their family and we support them,” ye said.
“I think he’s resilient, and he’s a strong leader, and that’s what you do,” added Susan Miller of Elkins Park.
