After spending years running a supper club from her apartment, Amanda Shulman has elevated her visionary concept with a Philadelphia restaurant, writes Khushbu Shah for Food & Wine.

While she was an undergrad at the University of Pennsylvania, Shulman spent her weekends cooking five-course meals for paying dinner guests.

After she began working as a line cook at revered restaurants such as Vetri Cucina in Philadelphia and Momofuku Ko in New York City, she continued to run supper clubs on the side.

“It started off as a 50-person list of friends, and it turned into emails from 600 people who I didn’t know,” said Shulman.

During the pandemic, she decided it was time to open her restaurant.

After giving up on New York City due to high real estate costs, she returned to Philadelphia and found a nice spot on Sansom Street near Rittenhouse Square in Center City for the first brick-and-mortar location of her supper club, Her Place.

The restaurant opened its doors in 2021. There, she throws two dinner parties every night. The interior is cozy and has a vintage feel with mismatched plates and silverware.

The menu changes every two weeks. Shulman focuses on fresh and seasonal ingredients she turns into stunning meals.
