Two Philadelphia joints make some of the best pizzas in the country, according to a new list of 28 of the best pizza places in the U.S. that was recently published by Food and Wine Magazine.

Pizzeria Vetri, owned by Marc Vetri, one of the nation’s renowned Italian chefs, sits at the top of the list. The restaurant offers Neapolitan pies that come with thick and chewy crusts topped with prosciutto crudo and roasted fennel, among many other options.

In addition to pizzas, Pizzeria Vetri offers Rotolo, housemade mortadella and ricotta wrapped in pizza dough with a pistachio pesto topping.

Tacconelli’s Pizzeria on Sumerset Street in Kensington came in at No. 21. This longstanding local pizza institution has not changed its tomato pie recipe since it was first served by Italian immigrant Giovanni Tacconelli in 1946.

With the minimal amount of cheese added, Tacconelli’s Pizzeria’s pizzas are just as tasty nearly eight decades on as they ever were.
