This Fall weather makes me think of hearty meals, as well as some of my favorite cool-weather foods: burgers and fries. My brother recently joked with me that my first job at McDonald’s kicked off my love affair with French fries! (It’s true)

But these burgers below…these are for foodies, and for those that know a good burger when they eat one, along with hand-cut fries.

Here are my favorite Montco places with the best craft burgers and fries.

Craft Burgers:

Lock 29

Lock 29 in Mont Clare recently opened back up after being slammed by Hurricane Ida. They had only been open a couple of weeks before being flooded out terribly. Now they are back!

Their menu includes chicken sandwiches, burgers, salads, and specialty Nachos.

I opted for the Truffle fries (of course!) with my Bacon Bourbon burger.

The fries had a lovely dusting of Parm cheese and just enough truffle oil- not too much because the fries were hand-cut and a tasty, hearty side to my burger, which was bursting with bourbon bacon jam, smoked Gouda, and onion rings, all atop a meaty brioche bun that could stand up to a burger of this magnitude.

Lock 29 is located at 127 Bridge Street in Mont Clare, across from Produce Junction, on the canal.

Ripplewood Whiskey & Craft

For the Ripplewood Burger, on the Main Line, they start with over a half-pound of meat, add melted Gouda, pickled onions, their special sauce (what’s in that!?), lettuce, and how’s this for interesting—fried slices of Lebanon bologna.

Their Ripp fries are just about a meal on their own: fries topped with jalapeño, chipotle mayo, brisket, fondue, and pickled red onion. Here you’ll have a burger worth remembering.

Ripplewood Whiskey & Craft can be found at 29 E. Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore

Copper Crow

Horsham’s newest American eatery, the Copper Crow, offers a host of fun dishes, including their creative small plates and sides, their flavorful stars, and their pizza.

Their burgers include a Lamb Burger, an All-American Burger, and their Hawaiian Burger, which includes caramelized pineapple, American cheese, soy glaze, pickled jalapeño and red onion.

Get the Crow Fries with Romano cheese, rosemary sea salt, truffle oil, and black pepper aioli, and you’ll be set.

The Copper Crow is located at 116 Welsh Road in Horsham.

The Butcher and Barkeep

This fun and comfortable eatery offers a Smashburger that will leave you satisfied: Wagyu beef, crispy fried bacon, savory pimento cheese, honey-sriracha mayo, and lettuce, tomato atop a brioche bun.

And to create a meal that memorable as well as it is delicious, you must get the Sexy Fries: fresh hand-cut fries with herbs, Parmesan, hollandaise, and truffle oil. You’ll be back for more in no time!

The Butcher and Barkeep is located at 712 Main Street in Harleysville.

The Yard House

Looking for a fun atmosphere with an amazing beer selection and great burgers? Try King of Prussia’s Yard House. Their Prime Burgers, like the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, is super hearty and delicious. Served with smoked bacon, BBQ sauce, garlic aioli, on a brioche bun with sesame seeds and fries.

The Yard House is located at 160 N. Gulph Road in King of Prussia.

Fries, in a category, all their own:

Head to the Railroad Street Bar & Grill and sample their fries. They are famous for their creative grilled cheese sandwiches, but their fries definitely get a mention here.

Try the Bacon Cheddar Ranch Fries, the Tomato Jam Fries with black garlic aioli, fried spicy pickles, grated parmesan, and of course, homemade tomato jam.

Also, enjoy the Lobster Fries—shredded lobster over fries, Monterey Jack cheese, Old Bay, grated parm cheese—all smothered in Lobster Bisque. Not for the faint of heart!

The RR is located at 36 Railroad Street in Linfield.

Vegan Mention

King of Prussia’s True Food Kitchen offers a Vegan Double Cheeseburger. It’s made in-house with house-made with portobello, walnut, beet, kuzu, pickled onion, organic tomato, lettuce, vegan cheddar, vegenaise, flaxseed bun, and accompanied by sweet potato hash on the side.
