At Lock 29 in Mont Clare, nestled along the Schuylkill River Trail, guests can enjoy delicious dining with stunning waterfront views, reports Bob Kelly for FOX 29 Philadelphia.
The lovely eatery is located on the canal, right over the bridge from Phoenixville. It opened in July 2021, but a flood caused by Hurricane Ida struck just 30 days later. Since then, the business has recovered quickly and become a local favorite.
The restaurant is named after a canal lock, still frequently used to raise and lower boats.
“So a lot of canoeists, kayakers, come down the canal, dock right here with us, come up the steps, and come right into the bar for lunch,” said Angela Benis, Lock 29 owner. “On a very busy day on the water, it’s awesome to be just sitting out here, enjoying the views, the wildlife, live music on the weekends. It can be really fun.”
Lock 29 offers primarily bar food, with everything made from scratch.
“We’re making every sauce, every soup, every salad dressing, we’re hand-cutting all of our fries, hand-battering our chicken for our chicken sandwiches, and fresh-pressing all the juice in our cocktails,” said Benis.
