Jazmine Sullivan, the Grammy-nominated singer who lives near Ambler, has had a busy start to the year, writes Victor Fiorillo for the Philadelphia Magazine.

The Philadelphia native released a critically acclaimed album and followed it up by performing the national anthem at the Super Bowl in February, something that will stay forever in her mind.

It was “exhilarating and nerve-racking and beautiful,” she said.

Sullivan was first nominated for a Grammy in 2009 for her first album, Fearless. She was also nominated for Best New Artist that same year but lost out to Adele.

“Of course I had to come out when Adele came out,” she joked. “Great timing.”

She took a break from the industry in 2011, after leaving a bad relationship. This was when she moved to Ambler from California to get her life back together, making it her new home.

“I’m still here because my life is here,” she said. “My family is here. This is home.”

Once the pandemic is over, she is excited about being able to go to the movies once again. “I love movies,” she said.
