Sadie Leigh, a Fort Washington resident and Temple University junior, wowed the judges during her audition and earned a golden ticket to Hollywood on American Idol, writes Alicia Vitarelli for 6abc.

The 20-year-old singer and songwriter has been making music with her father as long as she can remember. He was the one who accompanied her and helped her conquer the auditions.

“He’s really the one who inspired me to start music, and that’s why it was so special that he was able to come with me to my audition and accompany me,” she said.

Leigh was discovered by American Idol through her live stream shows on Facebook during the pandemic.

“The goal of my live streams was to bring music and bring some light to people in such a dark time,” she said. “I think I ended up reaching a broader audience than I would have intended.”

She also received some good advice from one of the judges, Katy Perry, who told her that while her talent is obvious, she needed to work on her self-confidence.

“That’s something I definitely wanted to work on,” said Leigh.
