Lansdale artist Daniel Duffy is honoring Philadelphia sports in a unique way, writes Megan Frank for the PBS39.

He creates art from words such as sports stats and famous speeches and calls it “Art of Words.”

He began doing this more than a decade ago to impress his then-girlfriend, now wife, Jessica.

“We were dating in 2008,” he said. “She’s a huge Phillies fan. I had a job, but I didn’t make a lot of money. She’s from Wayne, so I was like, how does a guy from Lansdale impress a girl from Wayne?”

That initiated his journey into the world of sports and art.

“I took an old art project idea, where you write tiny words and make an image,” he recalled. “My goal was to write out the entire baseball season. I wrote out the dates, the opponents, and scores for the championship season.”

With some encouragement from his wife, Duffy started showing his works at local art shows. After honing his craft on Philadelphia Phillies pieces, he then expanded to other teams, and not just in Philadelphia. His tribute to the New York Yankees was also spotlighted by the New York Post.
