After a car crashed into Swain Destinations in Ardmore, the owners decided to turn the potential disaster into an artistic opportunity, writes Richard Ilgenfritz for the Main Line Times.

While no one was injured in the Nov. 22 crash, the storefront was damaged. Until the replacement glass could be ordered, the owners had to put plywood to cover the opening.

So they decided to hold a contest for an artist who would paint a holiday mural over the plywood.

The winning design was submitted by Caroline Foglia, who painted it on the storefront earlier this month, said Ian Swain II, vice president of the business.

“We are thrilled with Caroline’s mural and love the holiday aesthetic it adds to Lancaster Avenue“, Swain said. “We hope our community enjoys this piece as much as we do.”

Foglia is a recent Arcadia University graduate with a graphic design degree. Her goal for the contest was to create a fun holiday mural that would fit in with the travel business.

“I am really proud of how it turned out, especially in such a short time period,” she said.
