Conshohocken Veteran Says Military Experience Helped in Becoming Successful Financial Advisor

After serving in the military, veterans who have transitioned into financial advising like Conshohocken’s Sean Pearson are finding that their Armed Forces experience really helps, writes Morey Stettner for Investor’s Business Daily.

Pearson is a certified financial planner who has served in the Pennsylvania National Guard for 19 years. For him, being in the military resembles an extended exercise in stress management, as cadets have to learn how to think quickly in a crisis.

He points out that people facing periods of financial stress have an instinctive reaction to abandon their long-established investment strategy.

“You have to have patience under fire and stick with your plan,” he said. “I tell my clients, ‘Let’s create a plan and stick to that plan, even under stress.'”

Pearson, who works for Ameriprise Financial Services, notes that being in the military has also instilled an eagerness to constantly expand his knowledge.

“It’s like being an advisor, where I keep learning,” he said. “I got an MBA. I learned about insurance. From the military, you get the discipline to pursue lifelong learning, and then share what you know.”
