La Salle’s Gavin Sidwar Could Break School Records, Surpassing His Head Coach

Gavin Sidwar is close to breaking La Salle College High School’s records for career passing yards and touchdowns set by his head coach.

Gavin Sidwar is on the verge of breaking La Salle College High School’s long-standing records for career passing yards and touchdowns set by his head coach, Brett Gordon, nearly three decades ago, writes Alex Coffey for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The record chase has evolved into a running inside joke between the player and his coach in the last month.

“The closer he gets, we might start running the ball more,” said Gordon. “To hold on as long as we possibly can.”

Eighteen-year-old Sidwar needs only 48 yards and six touchdowns to set a school record. Current benchmarks are 6,837 yards and 84 touchdowns.

Gordon feels fortunate to be at La Salle, witnessing the athlete he trained poised to make history. Now barring any potential injury, he is confident Sidwar will achieve the milestone.

Gordon joined Wyndmoor’s La Salle in 2024 and immediately began mentoring Sidwar.

“My thought was to take his physical attributes and teach him the mental pieces that made me successful,” he said. “The sky is the limit from there.”
