Following a victory in the PIAA Class 6A football semifinal, La Salle senior quarterback Gavin Sidwar is focused on securing the school’s first state title in more than ten years, writes Dave Caldwell for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The team has enjoyed a stellar season so far, starting with a victory over the Vikings in a nonleague game and suffering only one setback against Roman Catholic in the Catholic League.
Sidwar will play football at the University of Missouri next year, but first, he will spend one final week with his La Salle teammates, ending with the PIAA Class 6A state championship game this Saturday.
The 6-3, 190-pound senior will lead the Explorers in a game the team has not reached in 15 years and has not won since 2009.
“At the end of the day, we’ve just got to go out and play fast, play physical, and play disciplined,” said Sidwar. “Be us. Don’t press. It’s just a football game that we’ve been playing since we were kids. So play the game, not the occasion. Just go out and play football.”
