Joey O’Brien and Gavin Sidwar, La Salle College High standouts, gave back to the Souderton Area Youth Football program by heading up a camp for young players, writes Sidney Snider for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The two football stars, both set to play major college football next year, got their start in Souderton. O’Brien, a defensive back and wide receiver, played from sixth through eighth grade and was joined for the final two seasons by Sidwar, a quarterback, before they moved on to La Salle.
“I got to play real football with all the coaches here,” said Sidwar, who has committed to Missouri. “I was able to throw the ball around, play with my guys. And it was always super fun.”
O’Brien, a five-star recruit, has already committed to Notre Dame.
“These kids love Joey, they love Gavin,” said Lando Gutierrez, vice president of the Souderton Braves. “They’re big names, and for them to come out, it meant a lot.”
Around 30 youths, ages six to fourteen, participated in the camp, running drills focused on agility, defense, handoffs, and passing.
