LuLu Country Club’s Trevor Bensel Clinches Record Prize at Haverford’s PGA Classic

Trevor Bensel of Glenside wins $100K at Sunnybrook’s Haverford PGA Classic, the largest first-place prize in PGA Section history.

Trevor Bensel of Glenside’s LuLu Country Club teed up the biggest win of his career at the 27th Annual Haverford Philadelphia PGA Classic.

Bensel walked away with a tournament-record $100,000 prize at Sunnybrook Golf Club on Plymouth Meeting. He hit 5 under par with a 67 and edged out Rolling Green’s Braden Shattuck by a single stroke to claim the title – and a life-changing paycheck.

The Haverford Classic boasts the largest winner’s purse of any PGA of America Section event in the country, drawing hundreds of fans to Montgomery County for one of the region’s premier golf showcases.

Bensel sealed the win with seven birdies, two bogeys, and a crucial up-and-down par on the 18th green. Bensel called that the best of his career.

“I hit a perfect shot,” he said. “It ended up three feet below the hole, and made the putt.”

The win marked another milestone in Bensel’s strong run of performances, including his 2022 Assistant PGA Professional Championship title. He added with a laugh that he was finally ready to move out of his friend’s place.
