The Annual Haverford Philadelphia PGA Classic Returns to Plymouth Meeting

Plymouth Meeting’s Sunnybrook Golf Club hosts the Haverford PGA Classic on May 27—one of the biggest prize events in U.S. Section golf.

The Haverford Philadelphia PGA Classic, golf’s biggest local payday returns to Plymouth Meeting next week.

The 27th classic tees off May 27 at Sunnybrook Golf Club in Plymouth Meeting, featuring the largest first-place prize in any PGA of America Section event nationwide—$100,000. A field of 132 PGA Professionals and 16 amateurs will compete in this prestigious invitational, sponsored once again by the Haverford Trust Company.

“(We) are proud to once again sponsor this exciting invitational and honor the tremendous impact PGA Members have on the game of golf throughout Greater Philadelphia,” said Joe McLaughlin, Chairman & CEO of Haverford Trust.

The defending champion, John Pillar of the Country Club at Woodloch Springs, clinched the title last year after three dramatic sudden-death playoff holes, outlasting Braden Shattuck (Rolling Green G.C.) and Kyle Early (Waynesborough C.C.). Pillar’s 25-foot birdie sealed his win and the $100,000 prize.

Held annually at Sunnybrook, the tournament has become a highlight of the Philadelphia PGA Section’s calendar. Executive Director Geoff Surrette praised Haverford Trust’s continued sponsorship. “We feel honored by their ongoing support and commitment to the game and business of golf here in Philadelphia,” he said.
