Gwynedd Mercy Academy Crowned Champs—Then Jalen Hurts Walked In

After Gwynedd Mercy won its first state flag football title, Jalen Hurts surprised the team with their trophy—and a memory they won’t forget.

The Gwynedd Mercy Academy girls’ flag football team got more than a state title on Sunday, writes Ariel Simpson for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

They got a surprise visit from Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

After defeating Lansdale Catholic, 14-6, to secure their first ever state championship in the Eagles Girls’ Flag Football League, the Monarchs celebrated when Hurts appeared to deliver their trophy in person.

Hurts handed over the hardware and posed for photos with the players at the NovaCare Complex. The moment turned a milestone win into a memory that will last a lifetime.

The gesture capped a redemption run for the Lower Gwynedd, which had come up short the past two years. But this season, they went undefeated and clinched the top spot in dominant fashion.

Hurst, who also presented trophies at last year’s league finals, serves as a global flag football ambassador and has been a visible champion of the sport.
