The huge chicken cutlets served at Carina Sorella in Bryn Mawr are a true spectacle, often drawing the attention of many a passersby, writes Craig LaBan for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

While some might criticize the supersizing of American portions, this 14-ounce slab of fried chicken and buttermilk breading is perfect for sharing with a loved one or a friend.

They tend to keep the kitchen busy, as the eatery, known for its range of familiar Italian classics, sells up to 40 of these cutlets on a typical Friday night, whether in a Parmesan- and anchovy-laced Caesar salad, the chicken parm, or in another dish.

The cutlet is also the main draw of Carina Sorella’s original sibling, the cozy 32-seat Trattoria Carina in Fitler Square. The original eatery is significantly smaller than its younger Bryn Mawr location, which features 110 seats and a curvy white bar, where patrons can enjoy negronis, espresso martinis, and three kinds of refreshing spritzes.

The Caesar salad with the added cutlet costs $27, which is a bargain if shared with another person.

“They are grandiose,” said Carina Sorella manager Don Galvano.
