J-Town Market and Eatery is a charming new establishment in Jenkintown that serves empanadas, fresh produce, and breakfast sandwiches, reports Bob Kelly for Fox 29 Philadelphia.
The Montgomery County corner store opened in May, that is the third in a series of establishments owned by Rosie Thomas and her husband Jiji.
They originally opened the King’s Corner pub followed by Lilly’s Authentic Indian Cuisine.
“We’re city kids,” said Thomas. “We’re used to the corner store feel.”
Thomas, whose parents both owned corner stores, is following in their footsteps. Her establishment offers a “little bit of everything”, including snacks, produce, freshly made bread, grab-and-go items, and more. But the store is popular for its iconic empanadas.
The pastry can be filled with anything, including cheese, chicken, or beef.
“You have to have it in a greasy brown bag,” said Thomas. “That’s the typical city corner store feel, for sure.”
In addition to the empanadas, J-Town Market is currently serving Indian dishes as Lilly’s undergoes renovation.
Customers can order the dishes through Lilly’s website and pick up the food at J-Town.
