Harriton High School in Rosemont recently had an internationally recognized opera singer visit its music students, according to the Lower Merion School District.

Paul Spencer Adkins held an interactive vocal workshop for concert choir students. During the workshop, he helped them finetune the skills needed to be a solo singer.

He said to them, “Technique is learning what to tell yourself so that you can repeat it without being told.”

Adkins is the only American tenor to be named a winner in the Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition in 1981 and has toured the world performing in Madama Butterfly, La Traviata, and Faust.

As a vocal instructor, he has taught Benj Pasek, who along with his songwriting partner Justin Paul, is known for his work on La La Land and Dear Evan Hansen.

He also taught Amanda Jane Cooper who has played Glinda in Wicked.
