Ardmore’s Benj Pasek Receives Two Oscar Nominations in Best Original Song Category for La La Land

Nominations for the 89th Academy Awards includes two for Ardmore's Benj Pasek in the Best Original Song category.

Montgomery County proved once again that is has no shortage of talent as the recently announced nominations for the 89th Academy Awards includes two for Ardmore’s Benj Pasek in the Best Original Song category, write Molly Eichel and Ellen Gray for Philly.com.

Pasek was nominated for “City of Stars” and “Audition (The Fools Who Dream)” both songs from La La Land, the highly praised musical that has nabbed a stunning 14 nominations for this year’s Oscars.

The romantic ode to Los Angeles has already won seven Golden Globes last month with one of them going to Pasek. He won the Golden Globe for best original song for his lyrics to “City of Stars,” created with composer Justin Hurwitz and his writing partner Justin Paul.

“We never thought we’d be a part of an original movie musical,” said Pasek. “This is for musical theater nerds everywhere.”

The nominations are a continuation of an already stellar year for the Ardmore artist. He also has a popular show on Broadway called Dear Evan Hansen. It is based on a troubled kid he knew in high school and has been praised by Toby Zinman as “heartrending and gorgeous.”
