Using vivid colors and space-minded planning, a Radnor family has transformed the kitchen and laundry/mudroom space at their colonial home into a functional happy place, writes Eileen Smith Dallabrida for the Main Line Today.

The once-dated spaces that included massive wood posts and plenty of charm but very little closet space were transformed with help from Bryn Mawr-based designer Michelle Gage. She designed a plan that combined make-every-inch-count storage with the bright colors of St. Croix.

“We wanted it to be functional and fun,” she said.

Today, the kitchen boasts teal cabinetry and abundant cupboards and drawers. It also has custom niceties such as an appliance garage and open nooks that are ideal for cookbooks and plants.

Gage also found a way to make sure that the space now has both an eat-in area and additional storage.

“We were able to make the island larger for more storage,” she said. “Then, instead of having counter stools there for breakfast, we pivoted to making the eating area larger and more comfortable by the window.”

Meanwhile, additional storage was created in a combined mudroom and laundry with a full closet, built-in cupboards, and a pantry cabinet.
