North Penn Pediatric Dental Associates in Lansdale is collecting excess Halloween candy to send to the troops serving the country overseas, reports Sheila Watko for NBC10 Philadelphia.

The longstanding program has patients, neighbors, and other community members bringing in their extra Halloween candy to any of the practice’s locations – there are Harleysville and Quakertown offices as well – which are then sent to U.S. troops.

For the dentists who work at North Penn Pediatric Dental Associates, the program is all about supporting the community.

“We love candy,” said Dr. Michael Wong. “Even as dentists, we love candy. But, believe it or not, one of the more important things is giving back to the community.”

“We partnered with Central Bucks School District’s Operation Eternal Gratitude to give back to the troops, the brave men and women that are serving overseas, and that really hits to the heart” he added.

One of the practice’s staff, Dr. Katie Lapps Wert, is a veteran of the United States Navy herself who received care packages while stationed in Iraq thanks to similar programs.

“It means so much,” she said.
