With the general election now over, officials in Abington Township are encouraging residents to recycle their campaign yard signs instead of throwing them in the trash, writes Max Bennett for the Patch.

Montgomery County will be collecting signs starting on Wednesday through Monday. Abington residents can recycle their signs at the Abington Township Highway Yard at 2201 Florey Lane.

An additional 15 sites across the county will also be available for residents who would prefer to have their campaign yard signs recycled. These sites will accept signs during their normal hours of operation.

Materials that are accepted for recycling are paperboard and plastic yard signs as well as metal stands.

“Campaign yard signs are either paperboard or plastic with a metal stand,” said Veronica Harris, recycling manager for Montgomery County.

“Plastic signs and metal stands cannot go into the regular curbside recycling; that is only for paper and packaging. Instead of sorting through what can or cannot be recycled, bring the signs to a participating location and we’ll sort through it for you.”
