Heart Attack Fells Former President of Glenside’s Wissahickon Stone Quarry, Passionate Dog Advocate

Betty Ann White.

Entrepreneur-financier-activist Betty Ann White, 56, was taken by an Oct. 19 heart attack. Among many roles, she was president and managing member of Glenside’s Wissahickon Stone Quarry. Gary Miles’ retrospective of her eclectic life ran in The Philadelphia Inquirer.

White was a lifelong Phila. resident. Her career path included positions as a realtor, bank vice president, and animal activist. That latter role was solidified by her service CEO of the Pa. SPCA.

“She always had a lot of energy,” said her husband. “She never stopped giving and devoted her time to many people. She never got enough of giving.”

The Wissahickon Stone Quarry was a family-run company until it closed in the early 2000s when the economy tightened and the local residential real estate construction industry faltered. White took control of it in 2008 and nursed it back to financial health.

Despite leadership roles in the financial-services industry, her passion for animals became her mission.

One of her ongoing efforts involved reuniting U.S. soldiers with the dogs they unofficially adopted while serving abroad.

Additional pastimes included reading and cooking.

In an online tribute, a friend wrote: “Beth’s passion for animals, friends, family, and the overall community will be missed.”
