Karamoor Estate Vineyards & Winery, Fort Washington, winner of three recent, high-profile awards.

Karamoor Estate Vineyards & Winery in Fort Washington has plenty of reason to toast itself. The brand won three significant recognitions recently, two for beating out domestic competitors, one for rising above international producers. Paul Vigna uncorked the good news for Penn Live.

The vino flowing from this producer in 2022 has been recognized by wins from the following evaluations:

  • Sunset International Wine Competition, Sonoma County, Calif.
  • San Francisco Chronicle Competition
  • International Women’s Wine Competition

The local fruit producing all this fermented goodness grows from the oversight of Lucie Morton, renown consultant, and winemaker Kevin Robinson.

Morton was instrumental in a 2003 planting of the site’s 27 acres; Robinson — a University of California, Davis, graduate — has been a career standout since arriving in Fort Washington in 2011.

“I feel any major international competition is a good measuring stick to see how your wines compete on the world stage vs. just in your own back yard,” Robinson said. “If your claim is that you’re making world class wines, then you shouldn’t hesitate to compete with the best in the world.”

The kudos from the Women’s International Wine Competition were particularly sweet. The all-female judges evaluate the entries from the perspective of females who purchase and enjoy the product.
