Boston-area craft brewer Night Shift Brewing is coming to Southeastern Pennsylvania through a distribution deal with Hatfield-based Penn Beer Distributors, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The brewery originally planned to open a production facility, taproom, and distributorship in Roxborough, but the pandemic threw a wrench in that plan.

When the country started to shut down, Night Shift partners Rob Burns, Mike O’Mara, and Michael Oxton were in the process of applying for building permits.

“We got concerned with the project,” said Burns. “We didn’t know what the future would hold, and we had to protect the mother ship before we extended ourselves further.”

In the end the owners decided to scuttle the project, although officially it is still considered to be “on pause” as they would still like to open a plant in the Philadelphia area. Instead, they have decided to enter the market through a distribution arrangement.

The first truckloads are expected to leave Massachusetts in November.

In addition to Night Shift, Penn – one of the largest distributors in the region – also handles many major brands such as Budweiser, Becks, and Victory.
