Boyds to Open Ardmore Pop-Up Location, Its First Suburban Outpost in More Than Eight Decades

By

Boyds, one of Philadelphia’s oldest retailers, has decided to open the first suburban outpost in its 83-year-long history in Ardmore, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The pop-up outpost will occupy the former Urban Outfitters space in Ardmore’s Suburban Square.

“Some people think we’re crazy but I’d rather try and fail than not try at all,” said Kent Gushner, the third-generation owner of Boyds.

While searching for the perfect location, Gushner looked at spaces in the King of Prussia Mall and King of Prussia Town Center and in Wayne before settling on the Ardmore site.

The store will open at the start of next month and will run until January when the owner will evaluate the situation and decide its future.

The new store will serve two purposes. It will allow Boyds to attract customers living in the suburbs who do not venture to Center City for work or weekend fun. It will also be a test run for a possible permanent location that would go hand in hand with the migration of residents out of Center City to the suburbs that has picked up during the pandemic.
