Community-Accessible Testing and Education, or CATE, is PA’s latest COVID-19 resource on wheels to help stop the spread of the coronavirus and was designed specifically to reach minority, immigrant, and other underserved communities writes Jo Ciavaglia for the Pocono Record.

“In order to solve health care inequality and reach vulnerable and underserved communities we need to meet them where they are — quite literally on wheels,” said George Fernandez, who is the founder of Latino Connection.

CATE will provide free face masks and hand sanitizer in targeted areas where healthcare resources are more limited than other places, as well as free educational materials. CATE will also serve as a pop-up testing site for anybody, regardless of insurance coverage, carrying out nasal swabbing to send to the Pennsylvania Bureau of Laboratories for processing.

As a product of partnership between the Department of Health, Latino Connection, Highmark Blue Shield, and Independence Blue Cross Foundation, CATE is expected to serve up to 250 people a day.

CATE will begin touring PA in September and will visit Montgomery County at the following locations and dates:

Lansdale Branch YMCA: Sept 21, 11 AM – 3 PM

Pottstown YMCA: Sept 26, 11 AM – 3 PM

Willow Grove YMCA: Sept. 22, 11 AM – 3 PM
