Larry Borden, owner of Aardvark Mobile Tours, has modified the Conshohocken-based company’s patented trucks to serve as mobile COVID-19 testing centers, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Aardvark Mobile Tours stages events and attracts large audiences to small areas to help businesses such as Coca-Cola and Nike build brand awareness. When the coronavirus outbreak started, Boden, who founded the company thirteen years ago, knew his business would be severely impacted.
To keep it viable, he knew he was going to have to temporarily pivot away from his usual activities. So he came up with Aardvark Mobile Health.
He originally got the idea from reading about shipping containers that were being turned into COVID-19 testing kiosks. But the drawback he saw was that the kiosks are heavy and could only be moved by crane.
“I started thinking our patented trucks could easily be converted into a Covid-19 testing facility,” said Borden.
The result is fully self-contained trucks with their own generator and HVAC system. Now the company is in discussions with several potential customers, including state and local governments and pharmacy and retail chains.
