Manu Asthana, the new CEO of Audubon-based PJM has had to deal with extraordinary circumstances just three months after taking over due to the COVID-19 pandemic, writes Michelle Caffrey for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Asthana stepped into the role at the company that coordinates the wholesale electricity movement for nearly 65 million people in January, when he also first learned about the coronavirus.

He immediately barred international visitors from the company’s Audubon campus. Then in February, the company started tracking employees’ personal travel and ended nearly all work-related trips.

In early March, the company stopped hosting its members at the meeting center and barred all outside visitors from the campus. Over 90 percent of employees also transitioned to working from home and those who had to continue working on-site had to follow strict safety protocols.

“I’ve been really impressed with our people, the professionalism, their commitment to our purpose,” said Asthana. “They’re keeping the lights on for 65 million people who we serve. People have risen to the challenge, which has been amazing, as a leader, to watch.”
