IKEA, the Swedish home furnishings giant which has its U.S. headquarters in Conshohocken, has released a limited-edition, Pride-themed reusable bags collection to support LGBTQ homelessness relief initiatives.

To help raise funds and awareness for the Ali Forney Center of New York City and the Los Angeles LGBT Center, IKEA will donate 30 percent of the retail price of its STORSTOMMA Rainbow lunch bag to the centers, up to $50,000 per charity, between June 1 and August 31. IKEA will also make a $25,000 in-kind donation to each organization.

The aim of the charitable partnership is to provide affordable housing solutions and shelter for homeless LGBTQ youth and seniors as well as address their emotional needs through important support services.

“At a challenging time when much of the country and the world must self-isolate, it is important to recognize the meaning of the word ‘home,’” said Rafael Fantauzzi, country equality, diversity and inclusion officer at Ikea U.S.

Unfortunately he added, the homes LGBTQ youth live in are not always safe spaces for many of them, which is “why we’re committed to creating a more loving, accepting world: Because everyone deserves to feel at home, every day, everywhere.”
