Twenty employees from The Dow Chemical Company’s New Employee Orientation joined RSVP in a community volunteer activity designed to engage new employees into Dow’s culture of service and impact. As part of the joint outreach efforts of RSVP and the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, this partnership matches corporate volunteers with a multitude of community service projects that need their support.
Employee volunteers came together at the Northeast Dow Center in Collegeville and wrapped 720 books for Head Start preschoolers in Montgomery County and the Children’s Village in Philadelphia. Dow purchased and donated, Mimi and Shu: I’ll Race You to wrap as gifts for the children. At the beginning of the new school year, Dow employees will distribute the books to ensure students have books at home.

The students treasure these gift book additions to their sparse yet growing home libraries.
This is the 5th year that Dow has partnered with RSVP in a book wrap. In October employees will return to make soft fleece blankets which will be donated to newborns. Employees who participated remarked, “This is a very fulfilling program.”
RSVP partners with United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey to identify corporate volunteer opportunities that unite employees into collective teams that increase engagement and morale, leadership and team building skills as well as increase corporate community presence and goodwill. Selected projects address the needs of some of our local community’s most vulnerable populations, in this case, disadvantaged school children. RSVP’s Family Literacy program introduces young children to exciting adventures in the world of reading and provides preschoolers with gift books encouraging reading at home.
