MVD Entertainment Group in Pottstown is bucking the trend of moving away from selling ‘hard’ media after having its best year yet in the last three decades, writes Jonathan Takiff for Philly.com.

The company sells music and video entertainment out of its 30,000-square-foot facility that is filled with over 40,000 titles and close to a million items.

It recorded gross sales in the low eight figures for the last year, according to CFO Eve Edwards.

However a big boost to company’s profits has also come from streaming media.

“Digital revenues from streaming sources grew to 30 percent of our business,” said Ed Seaman, MVD’s CEO and Edwards’ brother. But, he added that the company was booming in every hard-goods sector, including CDs, vinyl, cassettes, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs.

“And so far in 2017, we’re tracking 20 percent higher across the board,” he said.

This success is driven by having content that both brick-and-mortar and online retailers can only acquire through the company’s MVD audio and video labels. It also sells imprints that are exclusively distributed for North America and sometimes globally by the Pottstown company.
