Pottstown High School Graduate Mildred Skerrett Keeys wore many hats during her life. She was a social worker, pastor, counselor, teacher, and volunteer, writes Gary Miles for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

She lived “an amazing live of purpose,” said her great-niece, Lisa Lewis.

Formerly of Philadelphia, Rev. Skerrett Keeys passed away at age 104 at Tylers Mill Senior Living center in Deptford, New Jersey.

Throughout her life, she never stopped learning or wanting to help others. She earned degrees from Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania, and graduated from the Philadelphia College of Bible. She even studied psychology online at Kennedy-Western University while in her 80s.

Her passion for learning started early when she graduated with honors from Pottstown High School.

Helping others was also important to her. She was a case worker in Montgomery County for the Children’s Aid Society and spent time as a counselor at a family services agency. She was also certified as a teacher in New Jersey.

At 83, she became an elder and associate pastor at St. Matthew AME Church where she inspired the congregation with messages of hope and gratitude.
