After yesterday’s soft opening, the Life Time Athletic facility in Fort Washington will officially open its doors to fitness enthusiasts in Fort Washington on Friday morning, writes Natalie Kostelni for Philadelphia Business Journal.
The Fort Washington gym is the fitness company’s second foray into the Philadelphia market after opening its Mount Laurel facility two years ago. Another location will also open later this year in Ardmore.
Unlike the majority of fitness centers that tend to operate in retail centers, Life Time Athletic prefers a much bigger operation and constructs its own facilities, most of which are over 100,000-square-feet.
Under the current operating model, Life Time goes beyond the traditional fitness center by providing members with numerous additional benefits. These include indoor and outdoor swimming pools along with basketball and racquet courts. There is also personal training and group fitness, yoga, child care and it even offers haircuts.
However, while the chain is already successful, founder Bahram Akradi, plans to “roll out a grand new vision for the fitness chain and for retail real estate.” This will create centers that could “change how some people live, shop and work in the future.”
