Six Montgomery County Campus Redevelopment Projects Move Forward

Six redevelopment projects for Montgomery County buildings in Norristown totaling $281 million could now be completed by 2025.

Montgomery County is moving forward on the $281 million redevelopment of key buildings essential to the county’s governance, writes Eric Devlin for Montgomery Media.

Three projects of the projects will focus on One Montgomery Plaza, with a new security entrance, facade replacement, and interior renovations, while the remaining three projects will focus on the new $220 million justice center.

The six individual developments in downtown Norristown are scheduled to be completed by 2025. They will address inefficiencies in operations, energy consumption, safety risks, and the current lack of office and parking space.

Two of these contracts were awarded on Tuesday at the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners’ meeting.

The first is a $16.1 million contract to provide the architectural and engineering services for a new justice center and the Hancock Square expansion by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Blue Bell’s Skanska USA Building also won a $5.1 million contract to provide construction management services on the same project.

“The entire purpose of the project is to look in a very detailed way at county operations, to make sure that we are building and renovating our facilities to adequately accommodate needs as we move forward.” said Tom Bonner, capital projects program director.
