Newbury II Project Receives Conditional Support from Upper Gwynedd Residents

Upper Gwynedd residents living near the proposed Newbury II development have given their support for the project, provided the developer meets several conditions, writes Dan Sokil for The Lansdale Reporter.

During a recent meeting, residents got a chance to voice their opinions on the matter, and will get another opportunity to comment next month.

“Officially, I want to say that Newbury will not oppose the rezoning,” said resident Glen Johnson. “The plan is basically OK, but I have four or five items that I would like to have the plan work with.”

The original Newbury development is just to the northwest of the proposed site of the second one. The plans show a complex of 32 twin homes built around a cul-de-sac to the northwest of current Newbury homes, with approximately 100 feet between the closest of the old and new buildings.

The development would require that the township’s current R-2 residential zoning code, which allows single family homes, be changed to the R-4 zoning, which allows twin units. While the approval for the change was not granted during the meeting, it is expected it will be given at the next meeting on Aug. 22.
