A Horsham teenager is turning heads on the diamond, and he can do it from just about anywhere on the field, writes Tom Moore for The Bucks County Courier Times.
Kenny Lutz, an 18-year-old senior at Hatboro-Horsham High School, has become the ultimate utility player for the Hatters baseball program.
At just 15, he played all nine positions over a single three-weekend travel ball stretch. That kind of versatility wasn’t a fluke. It’s become his calling card.
Lutz entered his senior season primarily as a catcher.
When senior Cole Incudine went down with an ankle injury during a game against Wissahickon, Lutz stepped in at shortstop without missing a beat.
Head coach Andy Fisher put it simply: “I could put him anywhere on the field, and he would be the best player at that position.”
His bat is just as impressive as his glove. Lutz leads the Hatters with a .409 batting average, a .567 on-base percentage, 18 hits, and 15 walks.
He’s also a 3½-year basketball starter.
Hatboro-Horsham is fighting for a District One playoff spot. A year ago, the Hatters earned an 11-seed, advanced through PIAA play, and won a game at states.
Lutz has committed to play college baseball at Chestnut Hill College, where coaches see him as a shortstop.
