City Express by Marriott King of Prussia Has Arrived and It’s Redefining Affordable Stays Near Valley Forge

City Express by Marriott King of Prussia has arrived. Here's what guests can expect from Montco's newest midscale Marriott hotel.

A King of Prussia hotel has taken on a new Marriott identity, marking the Greater Philadelphia debut of one of the hospitality giant’s newer midscale brands, writes Emma Dooling for The Philadelphia Business Journal.

The 68-room Prussia Inn at 131 S. Gulph Road is now operating as City Express by Marriott under a long-term brand agreement with Wayne-based Gulph Creek Hotels. The property had previously operated under the Best Western flag.

A Refreshed Experience for Guests

For guests, the rebrand brings a refreshed experience built around simplicity and value. The hotel offers updated guestrooms, complimentary breakfast, high-speed Wi-Fi, flexible workspaces, and a fitness center. It is the kind of no-frills-but-nothing-missing package that road warriors and budget-conscious leisure travelers tend to appreciate.

Guests also gain access to Marriott Bonvoy, meaning they can now earn and redeem points toward stays across the brand’s global portfolio.

Two Marriott Properties, One Strategic Move

For Gulph Creek Hotels owner Derek Sylvester, the change does more than update the name on the building.

The newly rebranded hotel sits next to the 136-room Residence Inn by Marriott King of Prussia, which Gulph Creek also owns. With both properties now under the Marriott International umbrella, the hotels can tap into the same reservation platform and loyalty network.

“It really helps us package the two hotels together,” Sylvester said.

A Broader Shift in the Hotel Industry

The move reflects a broader shift in the hotel industry, where major brands are leaning into midscale, select-service, and extended-stay concepts that appeal to travelers looking for reliable accommodations at more accessible price points.

Nationally, hotel demand has been growing modestly, but the industry is being reshaped by changing travel patterns, cost-conscious guests, and operators seeking the power of larger reservation systems.

About City Express by Marriott

City Express by Marriott fits squarely into that trend. Marriott acquired the brand in 2023 after City Express, founded in Mexico in 2002, expanded across Latin America. The brand emphasizes simplicity, consistency, and affordability.

A Strong Fit for King of Prussia

In King of Prussia, the rebrand adds another Marriott option to one of Montgomery County’s busiest commercial corridors, where business travel, shopping, dining, and access to major highways continue to support the local hospitality market.
