For three days this summer, the Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown, a regional favorite family destination, is throwing open its gates for free.
The zoo will offer free admission on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day as part of the nationwide America 250 celebration, giving families across the Philadelphia region three chances to spend a holiday surrounded by wildlife, live music, and community — without spending a dime on admission or parking.
Each of the three free days will feature live entertainment, animal encounters, seasonal drink specials, and activities designed to fill an entire day with things to see and do. Since parking is always free at Elmwood Park Zoo, the only thing guests need to bring is their sense of adventure.
Tickets are free, but registration is required. Guests can reserve their spot now at elmwoodparkzoo.org/free-holiday.
Memorial Day: Summer Starts Here
The series kicks off on Memorial Day. Guests can expect a lively, festive atmosphere from the moment they arrive, with entertainment and animal experiences spread across the grounds throughout the day.
Local craft brewery Bald Birds Brewing Company will be on-site, pouring Founding Feathers, a brand new collaboration beer created exclusively with the Zoo. The double dry-hopped pilsner will be available for guests 21 and older looking to enjoy a drink while they explore.
Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution will distribute American flags to guests in recognition of the holiday.
A Gift to the Community
For Elmwood Park Zoo CEO Al Zone, the initiative is as much about community as it is about celebration.
“This is a great way for us to give something back to the community while celebrating what makes these holidays meaningful,” Zone said. “We’re excited to open our doors to everyone and create a place where people can spend time together, enjoy the Zoo, and connect with nature.”
The Zoo’s participation in America 250 is supported by the Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board.
“This is exactly the kind of experience that brings people together and showcases what our region has to offer,” said Mike Bowman, President and CEO of the Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board. “Elmwood Park Zoo is a key part of Montgomery County, and initiatives like this make it even more accessible for families and visitors to enjoy.”
Plan Ahead — Large Crowds Expected
With free admission, free parking, live music, and animal encounters all on the table, large crowds are anticipated for each of the three holiday events. Guests are encouraged to arrive early in the day to make the most of the experience.
Additional programming details for each holiday will be announced in the coming weeks at elmwoodparkzoo.org/free-holiday.
