Your Dog Deserves a Zoo Day. Elmwood Park Zoo Agrees.

Elmwood Park Zoo's Dog Days are back Sundays and Mondays. Here's everything Montco pet owners need to know before visiting with their dog.

Dog Days are back at Elmwood Park Zoo, writes ABC7 Los Angeles.

The program gives Montgomery County pet owners another chance to bring their four-legged family members along for a zoo visit.

The Norristown attraction recently resumed its popular Dog Days program. When it first launched in 2021, it quickly became one of the zoo’s most talked-about experiences. Elmwood Park Zoo as one of the first zoos in the country to regularly host organized dog-friendly experiences.

Dog Days are held on Sundays and Mondays. Visitors can walk through much of the zoo alongside their dogs while encountering animals including giraffes, zebras, and birds of prey. 

Certain exhibit areas remain restricted to protect sensitive species. Participating dogs must meet vaccination and behavior requirements established by zoo staff. Note that Dog Days are unavailable in July and August.

“We all know pets are part of the family and you want the whole family to be present when you’re having these fun experiences,” Associate Director of Guest Services Jamie Sheard said.

The program reflects how dramatically Elmwood Park Zoo has expanded beyond the traditional zoo model over the last decade. The facility now operates as a year-round entertainment and community destination. It features a packed calendar of seasonal events and specialty experiences.

Among the zoo’s biggest annual draws are Wild Lights, which transforms the grounds into a large-scale illuminated holiday attraction, and Brew at the Zoo, an adults-focused craft beer and entertainment event held throughout the facility after hours.

Other recurring attractions include Breakfast with the Animals, Zoovies movie nights, Party for the Planet conservation celebrations, Halloween events, Easter programming, and Yappy Hours connected to the Dog Days concept.

Elmwood Park Zoo has also earned recognition for accessibility initiatives. It became the first zoo in the world designated as a Certified Autism Center.

For many Montgomery County families, Dog Days represents exactly what Elmwood Park Zoo has become: an increasingly interactive, community-driven destination built around shared experiences.
