Conshohocken Data Center Fight Reignites with New Application

Conshohocken data center proposal returns in Plymouth Township, reviving debate over infrastructure, noise, and impact in Montco.

The debate over a proposed Conshohocken data center is heating up again, as a familiar project returns in Plymouth Township.

Township officials confirmed a new application has been filed with the Zoning Hearing Board for a Conshohocken data center at the former Cleveland-Cliffs steel mill site. The property sits in a Heavy Industrial district, but the project requires a special exception.

A previous application for the same Conshohocken data center proposal was withdrawn. This marks the second attempt to develop the site.

Under Pennsylvania law, the applicant must demonstrate that the project meets zoning criteria. The Zoning Hearing Board will review evidence and testimony before making a decision. A hearing is expected within 60 days, with township officials preparing for significant public interest.

The renewed Conshohocken data center proposal comes amid broader pushback across Montgomery County.

Residents in and around Conshohocken have raised concerns about high energy usage, pressure on local infrastructure, and persistent noise from large-scale cooling systems. Others question environmental impacts and whether data centers deliver enough long-term community benefit.

Township leaders say the review process will be transparent, with multiple opportunities for public input.

As the hearings approach, the next chapter in the Conshohocken data center debate is beginning to unfold.
