In just a few years, Newtown could see hundreds of new apartments if plans are approved by local council members, writes Lacey Latch for the Bucks County Courier Times.
Newtown Athletic Club owner and developer Jim Worthington has two plans for high-end apartments that are currently moving through the municipal land development process.
The first, a new town center named Liberty Centre, is an eight-acre property along Newtown Creek that will house 125 luxury apartments, public gathering spaces, and public parking.
A 15,000-square-foot public plaza will anchor the development, providing a space to hold events, concerts, markets, and more, according to Worthington.
He recently submitted a proposal for another 308 apartment units across from the Law School Admission Council office on Penn Street.
This plan would combine two parcels into a 15.75-acre mixed-use site with residential units.
According to the plans, a vacant building on the property will be torn down while the other three existing buildings will remain. The proposal also includes a 58,981-square-foot public space.
If both projects are approved by officials, the borough’s number of apartments would increase approximately 367 percent, according to county housing data from 2023.
