Pennsylvania pizza places were rated based on the type of regional style pies they serve, including Chicago, New York, Detroit, Neapolitan, Sicilian, and tavern-style slices, writes Michelle Rotuno-Johnson for Patch.
Montgomery County pizzerias earned some top spots in the Pennsylvania ranking created by The Washington Post using Yelp data.
“We set out to find the country’s best pizzas, from slice shops in New York City to fancy California-inspired pizzas, gathering favorites from experts, historians and pros around the country,” The Post said.
“For a more populist view, Washington Post data columnist Andrew Van Dam analyzed 7.5 million Yelp reviews of pizzerias to see which regional-style restaurants attract the most and highest ratings.”
Only pizzerias that had at least 100 Yelp reviews with a majority referencing the pizza style in question were included.
Rankings were based on rating, number of reviews, and how often the reviews mentioned the particular style of pizza.
In Pennsylvania, The Post ranked the three top pizzerias according to regional style. They all have at least 3.5-star ratings on Yelp.
Gennaro’s Chicago Style Pizza in Pottstown earned the second spot for Chicago-style pies while Rock Hill Pizza in Bala Cynwyd took the third spot.
Collegeville Italian Bakery Pizzeria Napoletana was ranked No. 1 for Detroit-style pizza.
