The “unusual toppings and hippie vibe” of Ardmore’s Peace A Pizza chain have grown a little stale after 20 years, and now its ownership is serving up a fresh take on the never-stale appeal of pizza: Snap Custom Pizza.

Rather than rearranging the menu, co-owners Pete Howey and Erin Nocks are completely rebranding the concept as a choose-your-own-toppings pizza kitchen.

“Customer expectations have increased,” Howey said in a Newark Post report by Karie Simmons. “They want something fresher, and they want it healthier, and they want to be able to pick their toppings. We didn’t really change to keep up with the times.”

The duo has already tried out the new Snap Custom Pizza idea in Ardmore, and the switch doubled their business. Now they’re taking it to Newark and other chain locations.

“Standing out front, it’s amazing how many people are saying, ‘Oh no, they closed,’ and that’s flattering that we have so many people that will miss us,” Howey said. “But it’s not a sad story. I think it’s an exciting story.”
