For more than fifty years, volunteers at Generations of Indian Valley in Souderton have been providing food and companionship to seniors as part of their Meals on Wheels program, reports Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

Around 300 volunteers make it possible to deliver two meals per day to around 200 people. Before starting their routines, volunteers fill their cars with heated bags and roller coolers. In addition to delivering food, they check up on seniors to make sure that all of their needs are met.

“My route is about five people right now, and it takes probably about an hour,” said volunteer driver Ray Richie. “It’s just nice to be in their lives helping out. And they’re very appreciative.”

Generations of Indian Valley is a senior community center in Souderton.

“We’ve been here since 1968, serving older adults in our community,” said Doug Eschbach, Executive Director at Generations of Indian Valley.

Since the early 1970s, the Meals on Wheels program has been delivering daily nutritious meals to seniors and performing basic health checks to help support their well-being.
