Norristown’s Cavan Sullivan is already navigating a rare path in professional soccer toward a high-profile future overseas, writes Jonathan Tannenwald for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The teenage Philadelphia Union standout continues to grow his role locally while maintaining ties to English powerhouse Manchester City.
Sullivan signed with the Union at just 14 and is expected to join Manchester City in the future. For now, he remains focused on his development in Philadelphia, though team officials confirmed they’ve been in communication with the Premier League club. Sullivan has already participated in training stints abroad, while continuing to compete for the Union.
Despite the unique arrangement, Union leadership has made it clear that the priority is Sullivan’s growth in their system. The Norristown native has already logged minutes across MLS and international competition this season, recording early goals and assists while gaining experience against older competition.
His progress also extends beyond club play. Sullivan recently scored for the U.S. under-19 national team, further reinforcing his status as one of the region’s top young prospects.
While the Union continues to battle through a challenging season, Sullivan’s steady development offers a glimpse into the future.
